Pricing: How much does the design & build cost?
A chat: Free. A plan: £60. A build: 10%.
“How much do I need to spend on a bike?” … FAQ number one.
The dominant factor is of course what bike you want, followed by how you want to purchase it.
In general, a conventional road bike might cost the most, a single speed the least, with gravel bikes (or tarmac-focussed 1x setups) and mountain bikes in the middle. Any of the Cycle to Work ‘salary sacrifice’ schemes will significantly alter the overall cost to you and how you pay for it. Online calculators are available.
All of these options will be explored in an initial consultation with LTN.
We will seek to establish (at least) the following..
What do you already know about bikes? Are we about to help an expert who is simply short on time, or a novice looking for lots of guidance? All are welcome here.
What do you want to ride? You might already know what you want or need, but perhaps you will describe your expected use(s) and we can recommend a style.
How much do you want to spend? The budget is crucial! In our experience, bikes rarely end up costing less than you think… At lower price points, it can difficult for Low Traffic Neighbourhoods to improve on a ready-made mass-produced package - if this is the case, we will tell you as much, rather than build you an inferior bike or fail to stay under budget. As with anything in life, the higher you go, the more options we have.
How much does Low Traffic Neighbourhoods charge?
There are three stages of interaction.
The initial conversations, where we attempt to answer the basic questions above, are of course free. Please email info@lowtrafficltd.com to get started!
To go further, LTN will thoroughly research the current market and curate a shortlist of suitable frame options and total cost estimates for your build. We charge £50 (plus VAT, in advance) to cover this time and effort so far. If we continue, this charge will be subtracted from your final fee. If you decide not to pursue the project, we can part ways at this point - we will retain the research so the project can be re-started at a later date if you choose.
Finally, if you like the sound of a potential build and the estimated price you will need to pay, LTN will commence sourcing, final itemised pricing and build strategy. For a delivered bike, we charge 8.33% (plus VAT) of r.r.p. of all build components & provided items. The £50 initial consultation fee is deducted. Per complete project, there is a £150 minimum fee (plus VAT) payable to Low Traffic Neighbourhoods.
Omakase: We intend to offer a discounted build fee for customers who would like to leave the entire creative process to Low Traffic Neighbourhoods. The style of bike and the overall budget will be agreed: the rest is up to us! Watch this space for developments or email info@lowtrafficltd.com if you are interested.
